So, a Russel Group University is a part of a group of 24 others; grouped together to represent academic success. Eventually, as cities grew, so did the higher education system and other universities with the same values so they joined the group.

The Russel Group includes the most competitive universities to get into but with high entry requirements. The six red brick universities are also on this list. You can check their entry requirements on the UCAS website

Why pick a Russel Group?

A Russel Group university is appealing to employers. It speaks volumes of the type of education you have received and demonstrates that you can work at a high level. Because of this the entry requirements can be high making it especially competitive to get onto the courses.

Also many employers will seek to employ directly out of this group of universities and could even offer industry placements during your course. Luckily, you can find out more about these here.

However, all universities have fantastic opportunities so don’t worry too much if you don’t get an offer, because the Russel Group is just another network to be a part of. But it’s more important to choose a a course you are interested in, so don’t think the Russel Group is your only choice.

How do I apply?

Choosing one of the Russel Group is the exact same as applying to other Uni’s. Create an application on UCAS and wait to hear about an offer! Unlike applying for Oxford or Cambridge there is no test that you need to complete, so you need to check individual entry requirements to be sure!
